Overview
Reporting to the School Bus Driver, the Casual Bus Driver provides transportation for school events and student activities during the school year, based on a schedule provided by the School Bus Driver. Hours will vary week to week.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for the safety of passengers and the operation and maintenance of the school bus
Provide transportation coordination support for student programming by working collaboratively with members of the school management team.
Ensure a clean and mechanically sound vehicle for use throughout the school year
Maintain control of passenger activities during travel to prevent distractions or behaviours that could compromise safety
Communicate clearly and interact with students, faculty, staff and parents in a courteous, professional manner
Perform regular vehicle safety inspections and conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections
Participate in the review of any accidents and/or incidents
Participate in school meetings as required
Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications
Grade 12 graduate or GED
Must be 21 years or older.
Valid Class 2 New Brunswick driver’s license with an E endorsement, plus a good driving record
A Medical Certificate and Driver’s abstract are required every 2 years upon renewal of license.
Capable of exercising good judgment in handling the school bus
Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff and parents
Able to work a flexible schedule that will include early mornings, evenings, and weekends
